Celebrating Independence Day

On May 26, 2018, the Georgian Diaspora organization “Georgian House” celebrated the 100th anniversary of the founding of the First Democratic Republic of Georgia. The  event was held at the National Library  of Estonia and was financially supported by the Estonian Ministry of Culture and Integration fond. The Georgians residing in Estonia were greeted by  the Georgian Ambassador to Estonia Ms. T. Akhvlediani, the chairmens’ of the Lithuania, Latvia and Ukraine communities in Estonia. Representatives of all three countries emphasized the great friendship between Georgia and these countries.

The event was opened with the national anthem of Georgia and Estoni, which was performed by the folklore ensemble “Elese” from Georgia.  The  artsists  from Estonia, Moldavia and Ukraini presented their dancers and singers. Georgian dances were performed by children of Sunday school “Mziuri” of Georgian Diaspora. Two musical numbers were performed by the Piano School student.   The event was closed by famous  Georgian Dance.  The concert was followed by a official reception.

On May 26, 1918, the Democratic Republic of Georgia was officially created. Exactly 100 years ago, the National Council of Georgia adopted the Act of State Independence. Independence of the Republic of Georgia recognized by leading European states. However, the first republic of Georgia lasted  only three years and was occupied by Bolshevik Russia in 1921.
